CafePressVoice (CPV) Candidates Announced

Wow. I can’t believe the year has already gone by. The newest candidates for CafePressVoice, the shopkeeper panel that was introduced last year to provide CP with feedback on various features and services. Meet the 2008 CPV Candidates.

I’m quite pleased with the variety of candidates - varying levels of experience, seniority and community participation mean a well rounded panel that can represent all the different ways CP is used. Some of us will be staying on through the end of the year, so there are just 7 seats to fill this time around.

My first year on the panel was enlightening. I think that although we may not be able to share all we have done, that there have been a lot of great changes at CP based on feedback provided by the CPV reps, as well as services to be improved upon based on our voices. It’s been great to share not only our own experiences and feelings, but those of fellow shopkeepers.

The question came up about the nominees forum participation. Many people seem to think that it should be a pre-requisite for nomination. I disagree. I would love to see more shopkeepers in the forums, but for some, that’s just not their thing. And the fact is, forum participants are a small percentage of the CP community. Many people just lurk, some have yet to find them, some don’t touch the doorknob with a ten foot pole. I think that it would be good to have the perspective of a shopkeeper who’s not too active on the forums, as it would represent a large portion of the community that has never been there. I would love to see them become more active in the community after they are elected, but it’s most important to me that they participate in CPV by offering their experiences from the other side.

Elections are April 21st, which just so happens to be my 8 year wedding anniversary. Hopefully I remember the anniversary before the election :)

My only question is this… Is Kippy chewing leather? Or is that chocolate? And if it is chocolate, where’s mine?

New Shop Template at CafePress

I’ve been working on the cart side of Democrat Swag today, which means fiddling with html in CafePress. Well, I accidently hit the template page and saw that CP released a new template on the sly - or I just completely missed the announcement. Take a look at the new Expression template demo store

Tuesday’s Topic: Celebration

I thought this would be a very fitting way to officially start blogging again. It’s just been so busy around the Lekker World Headquarters, that our poor blog has been neglected.

There’s a lot to celebrate around here, no matter how many plates we’re trying to keep spinning.

We’re now two people strong! The hubby quit his job and has come home to work on several projects, the first being Kick Pop. He’s also contributed quite a few new designs at Lekker Politics. Link #1 Link #2 Link #3

We’ve opened a new shop, Democrat Swag, featuring some of the coolest political designs available at CafePress. That one’s been a long time in the making, and still a work in progress. You know, spinning plates.

We went back to Amsterdam for a month in January, which was very inspiring. We’re still on track for moving sometime within the next year. Typing that sentence made my heart skip a beat, it’s so exciting. We were able to stop over in London on the way back, and have a few pints and juice with Adam and Kippy, which was one of the highlights of the trip. Can’t wait to do it again!

Our 4 year anniversary as shopkeepers at CafePress passed in February. It’s been such a rewarding journey, and there’s definitely cause to celebrate. I have learned so much, not only business and design skills, but more about myself and what I really want to do. I can’t imagine to think of where our business will be 4 years from now when Barack Obama is running for his second term ; ) Hopefully, a nice little shop in Amsterdam, with the dogs behind the register and a candy dish on the counter.

One of the best things to come out of this business we started has been the wonderful friends I’ve made. Yeah, they are often times my direct competition, but they are willing to go out of their way to help and inspire others, and for that I can’t thank them enough. It’s something I never expected to happen, but I am so glad did. One of those is JGoode the wonder woman behind “Tuesday’s Topic“, among so many other things, not the least of which is a site that will always make me smile: The Lil Penguin Shop.
